Surgery

The two main functions of a veterinary hospital are to provide medicine and surgery. Surgery on our animal patients in many respects is more demanding than it would be on human patients. Just think that a veterinary surgeon must be able to anesthetize and perform surgery such as an ovariohysterectomy on a 2-pound Yorkie or a 200-pound BullMastiff. Both patients present unique problems not found in humans. The 2 pound Yorkie is smaller than a premature infant, and a 200 pound Mastiff or Great Dane, is deeper chested than any human.

People do not realize the enormous pressure on a conscientious veterinary surgeon. And today where even veterinary care has become expensive, surgery is done for a fraction of the cost in a human hospital.  And yet we use the same instruments, use the same monitoring equipment, and similar anesthetics.

We try to answer all of your questions about the many procedures offered at the Ark Animal Hospital, but in the final analysis it is up to you to ask all the questions necessary to give you the peace of mind to know that you are doing the best for your pet.
