Emergency Care

Socrates said we must always define our terms, and deciding what is an emergency is very difficult. I finally came to the conclusion that if the pet owner thinks their pet is having an emergency then it is an emergency until proven otherwise.

Real life and death emergencies that occur after hours need the benefit of an emergency clinic. We use the Sarasota emergency veterinary clinic and that is the number that is given when one calls our phone after hours. There is also an emergency clinic in Port Charlotte for those that feel that might be a shorter distance for them to travel.

My telephone is listed in the white pages, and while it would not be wise for me to make emergency calls without a full staff, I am often available for clients with urgent questions that might not be an emergency.

The operation of a veterinary emergency clinic is a very difficult undertaking. These clinics receive no government funding and must pay all of their bills through the fees generated. Therefore often emergency calls are more expensive than regular calls to your veterinarian.
